I think these categories are unclear what should be where. I think it would be easier to group them northeast (+,+), southeast (+,-), southwest (-,-) and northwest (-,+). Purine 03:21, 26 January 2012 (CST)

Good point... I had just been going off whichever coordinate had the greater absolute value. Here's what the categories would look like grouped that way:
Northwest (-x, -z) Northeast (+x, -z) Southwest (-x, +z) Southeast (+x, +z)
One downside though, settlements right near the compass points sort of get lumped into a category that doesn't really describe their location... same problem that already exists with the current grouping. For comparison's sake, I tried grouping them in 9 sectors:
Northwest (-x, -z) North (-z) Northeast (+x, -z)
West (-x) Central (<300 blocks from spawn) East (+x)
Southwest (-x, +z) South (+z) Southeast (+x, +z)
Does a decent job grouping settlements into regions, but the end result is a rather cluttered layout. --Bencvt 09:34, 26 January 2012 (CST)

Make 'centre' a larger area

If the 9-cell layout was to be used, this becomes a moot point.

I think the area that constitutes the centre of the map should be increased, say to 500 from spawn. A few of the villages that are relativley lose, few minutes walk from spawn are technically not considered central locations. Thecoshman 01:56, 7 February 2012 (CST)

Actually, weather a 9-cell or 4-column is to be used, I think the area that is considered central should be around 500 to 1000, probably kept to a multiple of 250 Thecoshman 12:55, 7 February 2012 (CST)

Far east

This again is a moot point if a 9-cell layout is used

The 'Eastern' settlements list is rather long, perhaps a far east column could be added. If this was set at those more 1500 from spawn in the x, currently seven settlements.

I think center column could be 500 blocks to east and west. Or even 1000. I have to put one template level more there so then those cells will be even. Purine 06:22, 7 February 2012 (CST)

personally, I don't like the look of this layout. I think having a three by three is probably the best solution. The only thing I would say needs to be discussed is how far from spawn is still considered 'central', I think some where between 500 and 1000 would be good, probably to the nearest 250. Out of date
