Avi_Dangerstein and betajippity founded Bamf during Revision 17. Initially they operated under the working title of "Dangerzone", but once they realized they were building a pretty mountain forest town, they decided to name the place "Bamf" as both a nod to "Dangerzone" and as a nod to the famous Canadian mountain forest city of Banff.
