PVE Introduction

This is a guide to starting out on PVE, and should not be used or reffered to as a part of the Rules or a basis for telling anyone to do or not do something on the fabulous server that is PVE. Please note that this is also based on mike_acosta's Quick-start guide (Creative)
Rules
- See server Rules first.
- Don't be a dick.
First Time Joining
- The first time you join, you will be located at spawn. It is important to read the signs in and around spawn before jumping down from spawn onto the real map. If you do not read the signs and jump, the water below will disappear, causing you to die.
- If you prefer not to read on signs, you can read the Rules here.
- Once you've jumped down, feel free to explore! PVE has some fabulous creations all across the map. You can use the rails, or just walk.
- Because of minecraft's food system, it's important to have food while traveling so that you don't die (no one would want that!). Therefore, we have a handful of public farms very near to spawn, feel free to use them. Just remember to replant!
FAQ
- How do I join?
- The server address is p.nerd.nu
- What is the difference between PVE and other servers?
- PVE is a Player VS. Environment server, meaning that there is no PVP and no block spawning.
- I don't know what to do; I'm bored
- What makes PVE a great server is the fact that virtually everyone is nice there. Just ask around, see if anyone needs help building, finding, mining, or helping. You can also build your own house, build roads or rails, creations, or explore. To chat, press t while playing.
- Where can I build?
- Anywhere that is not occupied by someone else or protected! You may want to build further from spawn / a poplated area to get a higher concentration of natural ores and resources. On the other hand, building and living near other people is a lot of fun. Before building in a city, please make sure to consult the city or town mayor about building rights and rules, because there may be restrictions.
- I need a mod for something, how can I contact them?
- Mods are usually online. If you need a mod, please refer to the contacting a Moderator section below.
- Why is X item banned?
- Items are usually banned because they can be destructive or they create lag.
- I'm banned, what do I do?
- I found X player hacking / griefing / abusing the rules / being a dick
- Don't panic! Refer to the contacting a Moderator section below.
- I'm lost!
- Because the PVE map is so large, getting lost is common. if you're trying to get back to spawn hit the Debug button (default F3) and find your way to either x=0 or z=0 (spawn). See the Coordinates page on the Minecraft Wiki for details on navigating with the Debug Screen.
- Can I set my own spawn point?
- Yes. Place a bed to set your spawn point should you die.
- Why can't I build here??
- Because it's protected. Spawn is protected, aswell as many user creations / houses / cities. Users may also request protection for their plots by contacting a Moderator.
- Someone removed my awesome 1x1 Cobble tower! BAN THEM!
- Creations that are especially derpy, such as tard towers (1x1 towers to the sky) may be removed. contact a Moderator for more info.
- How do I lock my chests?
- type "/cprivate" in the chat and left click the chest / furnace you would like to protect. More info on this by typing "/lwc" in the chat.
- How do I send a private message to another player?
- Use the server command "/msg [username] [message]".
- There's also "/m" (short for /msg) and "/r [message]", which replies to the sender of the last message you received.
- What mods can I use?
- There's not many reasons to use a gameplay-changing mod legitimately on PVE. Something like Optifine is probably OK, but flyhack, speedhack, fastplace, item givers, etc. are not OK, as it affects the server and the game play of others or gives access to banned items. Ask a moderator or post on the forum if you're really not sure.
- How do I become a moderator?
- By not asking.
- Really?
- Yes, really. Moderators are nominated from a small, trusted group of contributors. The admins usually keep the names of people they are considering extremely close to their chests until a moderator-only voting process begins. If you really want to be a moderator, do something so amazingly cool that the server administrators can't help but take notice, and do so consistently.
Contacting a moderator
- If you have read the above FAQ, and really need to contact a moderator (to report griefing, land disputes, or need a banned item placed such as lava or water), submit a request.
- To submit a request, use the "/modreq" command. Use it only once. Then, be patient. Moderators are typically very busy. If someone is griefing, for example, don't try to fix it, don't spam chat with complaints, just wait. Once a moderator is free, they can roll-back the damage very quickly, so just take a deep breath and relax.
- Example for griefing: /modreq Griefing username is placing obsidian on my house
- Example for protection: /modreq Protection corners marked with purple wool
- If you're wondering if a user is a moderator, or if someone tells you they are, you can check using the "/modlist" command. This also demonstrates why it may take some time to complete a modreq - if there are 100 users on the server, and a limited number of moderators, please be understanding. As long as you use "/modreq", a ticket is created, and your request won't be forgotten, even if you log out.
- Contacting a moderator does not guarantee that you get your way, though. Sometimes, the answer is "No", and complaining further usually won't work. Moderators are always very trust-worthy people, so their judgement is correct ~95% of the time.
- For more information about "/modreq", refer to the Modreq article.
- To report moderator abuse, please do so on the forum under server issues.
